PHOTO NOTES
Working with iPhone HEIC photos and browser tools
Understand why an iPhone image may need conversion first.
Recognise the format
An iPhone photo may be saved as HEIC rather than JPG. Changing its filename from .heic to .jpg does not convert it. Format is determined by the encoded contents, and website support varies between browsers and tools.
Use the native conversion workflow
The Photo Toolbox iPhone app includes JPEG, PNG and HEIC format conversion. Open Convert Format in the app, choose your photo, select JPEG or PNG and save a new copy. Device support can vary, and a new JPEG is a lossy export. The App Store listing is linked below.
Bring a supported copy to the website
This website accepts JPG, PNG and static WebP, with no HEIC decoder downloaded in the background. Select the converted copy in the browser tool. Images are limited to 20 MB each and 16 megapixels, so very large photos may need resizing on your device first.
Keep colour and metadata expectations clear
HEIC can carry colour and HDR information that is not preserved in a standard browser export. Photo Toolbox’s web canvas works in sRGB. The website renders orientation into pixels and does not copy original camera or location metadata. Keep the HEIC original if those properties matter.
Check before sending
Review the downloaded format, pixel dimensions and appearance. Choose JPG for services that require it, or PNG/WebP when transparency is needed. Android Photo Toolbox is currently in development; no Play Store download is offered until there is a verified release.
